Kettlebell Curiosity

I've unfortunately decided to change my Genius Hour project from making a meat smoker to passing the StrongFirst kettlebell certification test.  The recent studies linking cancer to eating smoked meats is to blame as I look to become healthier before my wedding.

To the right is a kettlebell.  This is one of the greatest, most efficient exercise tools in human history.  It was first pioneered by Russian farmers and continued to grow in popularity through the centuries.  It wasn't until the late 1990's that this tool rose in popularity in the United States.

I love using kettlebells because they are efficient, challenging, and I don't need to use a lot of weight to get a tough workout.  My love for the kettlebell has led me to want to gain certification in kettlebell instruction from Strong First.  This certification includes both written and physical portions.  The biggest challenge for me will likely be completing 100 kettlebell snatches in five minutes or less!  The kettlebell must be a 24 KG kettlebell.  I feel like I might need a bucket to complete this training!  Below is a video demonstrating the KB snatch for anyone who is unfamiliar with it.

  1. Wow! What a great project! I'm glad you're making an effort to be healthier...I need too. I have tried the kettlebells at the gym, put I don't know what I'm doing. I hope you will give me some pointers.
Will you post a video of you doing exercises?

  2. I meant to say I need to be healthier, too. Forgive me, I hit publish before I proofread.
